Under this program, eligible first time Driving under the Influence DUI offenders completing the program will have an opportunity to receive a withhold of adjudication on a reduced charge of Reckless Driving. These funds provide opportunities to nonprofits via a grant application process to support efforts that positively affect substance abuse, mental health and driving while impaired.
Drug Court is volunteer diversion and treatment program that identifies a defendant who has a substance abuse problem by redirecting them from the ordinary course of prosecution through intensive supervision by the presiding judge and rehabilitation through treatment specialists for a minimum of one year.
Upon successful completion of the treatment program, the treatment counselor will recommend that the judge discharge the case. First time offenders will have their charges dropped. Those charged with a DUI, Reckless Driving, or have a case involving an accident or injuries are not eligible. Those referred into the program will be required to complete a course designed to prevent future arrests. A major component of this program is to increase the number of licensed drivers in the community.
