Copy any files you want to save to another disk before formatting the disk. Really, it was that simple, and pretty much the same process for every other machine I have ever needed to run Windows on.
I have heard stories of people having problems when using drives especially SSDs that were not factory standard. For more information about using Boot Camp, please visit www. Aug 27, PM. When I uncompress the zip file I don't understand what the Boot Camp disk image is.
I have not been able to setup any partitions or anything from the boot camp utility. I do not see anything except the boot camp folder that was just unzipped. Dec 10, PM in response to camerondtaylor In response to camerondtaylor.
If you have a PC you can download the iso file with that and transfer it to your mac with a USB drive. I'm partitioning my disk with 1 partition as 'Max OS Extended Journaled ', but when I try to select the ISO in the Source: field, the iso file is greyed out by Finder, and attempting to do it by drag-and-drop gives 'Could not validate source - Invalid argument'.

Community Bot 1. So are you saying that when you launch the Boot Camp utility and it tells you to insert the DVD and press "Start Installation", you completely ignore that step, and instead reboot the machine from the USB key?
Senseful - exactly! It will reboot after copying the files and on the first reboot you select Windows on Disk 1 again, on the second reboot after it's done installing a third icon will appear in the boot loader "Boot Windows from Partition 3" you can now boot into Windows and eject your USB key. The only thing is that I was a bit confused trying to follow your directions.

According to your directions, you mentioned that Partition 3 only appears after the second reboot, but I saw it after the first. I followed your directions and chose Partition 1, though, and that's what completed the installation. So aside from that little issue, it worked as you describe. Not working for me. Unfortunately, the process of installing Windows on a Mac is still stuck in the dark ages for all users except those running the newest hardware that does not require optical media.
